| | good | ] | Twinkle Twinkle Little Star Rhyme Imagery used in Twinkle twinkle little star
The beautiful words of Twinkle twinkle little star have been immortalised in the poem and music has been added thus increasing its popularity. The simile ' like a diamond in the sky' teaches children how words can be used to paint a picture in the imagination. The words create a comparison between the twinkling of the star to a sparkling diamond thus providing a perfect illustration of clever imagery and excellent use of the English language. The joint authors of Twinkle twinkle little star were two sisters called Ann Taylor (1782-1866) and Jane Taylor (1783-1824). The first publication date was 1806.

Twinkle Twinkle Little Star poem Twinkle twinkle little star, how I wonder what you are? Up above the world so high , like a diamond in the sky When the blazing sun is gone, when he nothing shines upon, Then you show your little light, twinkle, twinkle all the night. Then the traveller in the dark, thanks you for your tiny spark, He could not see which way to go, if you did not twinkle so. In the dark blue sky you keep, and often through my curtains peep, For you never shut your eye, 'till the sun is in the sky. As your bright and tiny spark lights the traveller in the dark, Though I know not what you are - twinkle, twinkle little star. |

| | happy | ] | Mary Mary Quite Contrary: origin Nursery Rhyme Origins & History
The origins are steeped in history... Bloody Mary! The Mary alluded to in this traditional English nursery rhyme is reputed to be Mary Tudor, or Bloody Mary, who was the daughter of King Henry VIII. Queen Mary was a staunch Catholic and the garden referred to is an allusion to graveyards which were increasing in size with those who dared to continue to adhere to the Protestant faith - Protestant martyrs.
Instruments of Torture! The silver bells and cockle shells referred to in the Nursery Rhyme were colloquialisms for instruments of torture. The 'silver bells' were thumbscrews which crushed the thumb between two hard surfaces by the tightening of a screw. The 'cockleshells' were believed to be instruments of torture which were attached to the genitals!
The " Maids" or Maiden was the original guillotine! The 'maids' were a device to behead people called the Maiden. Beheading a victim was fraught with problems. It could take up to 11 blows to actually sever the head, the victim often resisted and had to be chased around the scaffold. Margaret Pole (1473 - 1541), Countess of Salisbury did not go willingly to her death and had to be chased and hacked at by the Executioner. These problems led to the invention of a mechanical instrument (now known as the guillotine) called the Maiden - shortened to Maids in the Mary Mary Nursery Rhyme. The Maiden had long been in use in England before Lord Morton, regent of Scotland during the minority of James VI, had a copy constructed from the Maiden which had been used in Halifax in Yorkshire. Ironically, Lord Morton fell from favour and was the first to experience the Maiden in Scotland!
Executions! Another form of execution during Mary's reign was being burnt at the stake - a terrible punishment much used during the Spanish Inquisition. The English hated the Spanish and dreaded the idea of an English Inquisition. The executions during the reign of Bloody Mary were therefore viewed with a greater fear of the Spanish than the executions themselves - it is interesting to note that executions during her reign totalled less than 300 an insignificant amount compared to the executions ordered by her father King Henry VIII which are believed to have numbered tens of thousands! We recommend the following site for more facts and information about Bloody Mary Mary Mary Quite Contrary: Origins and History Mary Mary quite contrary, How does your garden grow? With silver bells and cockle shells And pretty maids all in a row. |

| | Something's Gotta Give - soundtrack | ] | I'm feeling so much better. I have had a very nice weekend. I didn't do anything exciting. I went to the fall festival by my house yesterday with my nephew. He went on the rides. We walked around and had a snow cone to eat. I love those. I had lime and Garrett had rainbow. Then that evening for dinner we all went out to eat. Greg, Garrett and I went to see the movie "Dragon Wars." It was fun. I don't know if I would see it again or buy it but it was fun to see it. We saw previews for the Batman sequel "The Dark Knight" which sounds like it will be good. Plus other movies that sound fun. Garrett loves going to the movies. This weekend I've been pet sitting. Tonight is my last night. I'm kind of glad only because I'm ready to be in my own bed. Tonight I made dinner. Our menu was: Beef Pot Roast with gravy Mashed Potatoes Cooked carrots Applesauce Rolls It was all very good. I love foods like this in the fall. It is comfort food which I love. Plus it makes great leftovers.
I can't believe today is the first day of fall. I love fall! I think it is my favorite season. I love the smell of the air, leaves cracking under your feet while walking, wearing my fleece jackets, hot tea or apple cider and all the wonderful foods you eat this time of the year. I love being at home all warm and cozy with hot tea or cider to drink, candles burning and reading a book. I think it is time to get out all my apple pumpkin scented candles to burn. I love pumpkin spice candles in the fall. I don't like to eat pumpkin no matter how it's fixed but I think pumpkin smells great. And I love craving pumpkins for Halloween. I want to go and buy my pumpkins in the next couple weeks. I need to get them before my trip. If I wait until I get back the selection just won't be that great. And I have to carve at least one pumpkin. :) I'm so glad I'm feeling better and that it is fall. :) |

| | sad | ] | My Uncle Jim passed away last night. I am sad. I wasn't super close to him but I loved him. He has known me since I was a baby. He is my godfather. I have many memories of holiday dinners, family get togethers and being at the beach. He was a nice man. It feels very stange. He is my first Uncle to pass away. Now it is just Aunt Jo. Before it was always Aunt Jo and Uncle Jim. I feel sad for my Aunt and my cousins, Laurie & Pat. My Uncle Jim hasn't been in good health for a few years and the past year has been the worst. Even though he wasn't in good health and it's for the best it's still hard. Now I will be going to a funeral in the next week. I want to go and will go but it's always so hard to know what to say. No matter what you say it isn't going to make the person feel better but I guess just being there helps. The last time I saw my Uncle Jim was in March. We had a nice little visit. I can still hear our chat in my head. I'm glad I have that memory. I am sad but I'm going to try and remember all our family times together. The happy times will ease my sadness. |

Grilled salmon - caught by my brother yesterday :) Yummy! Grilled teriyaki steak Fresh green beans with bacon Herb & Butter rice Salad Sourdough rolls
For dessert we are having fresh local strawberries. I love cooking dinner. And I love getting everything ready. I already have the green beans cleaned and ready to cook. Half of the strawberries are clean and ready to be eaten. The steaks are marinating right now. And my brother will take care of the salmon. He caught two salmon yesterday. One was a king and weighs 30 pounds. The other salmon is a silver salmon and maybe about 10 to 15 pounds. We are having the silver salmon tonight for dinner. I'm going to take his photo with the salmon. Greg just loves to fish and is so happy when he catches something. I bought two containers of cherry tomatoes. Yummy. Now I'll have a supply for this week. I just love cherry tomatoes. Plus they are easy to take for my lunch and healthy. I think I should go and start cooking the beans and then make the salads. |

| | content | ] | Ratatouille (IPA:[rætəˈtui, -ˈtwi]; French pronunciation: [ʁataˈtuj], American pronunciation "ra-ta-TOO-ee", ) is a traditional French Provençal stewed vegetable dish. The dish, originating in Nice, is fully named ratatouille niçoise.
French version French ratatouille may be served as a meal on its own (accompanied by rice, potatoes, or simple French bread), or as a side dish. Tomatoes are a key ingredient, with garlic, onions, zucchini (courgettes), eggplant (aubergine), bell peppers (capsicum), some herbes de Provence, and sometimes basil. All the ingredients are sautéed lightly in olive oil.
When ratatouille is used as a filling for savoury crepes or to fill an omelette, the pieces are cut smaller.

| | Garden State soundtrack | ] | I've had a great day today. I went to see the movie "No Reservations" which was so cute & fun. It really put me in a good mood. Then out for a lovely lunch. I had chicken tortilla soup. It was lovely. And a salad which was very yummy too. The rest of the afternoon I just relaxed. I went to 5pm mass which was very nice. Then home to make dinner. I marinated chicken breasts in ginger sesame sauce. I grilled it on the barbeque. And we had salad, potatoes and veggies. Then I rans some errands. Tomorrow I'm seeing another movie. I'm going to see "The Bourne Ultimatum." It looks really good so I'm excited. I loved the first two movies. I think tomorrow I'll go for a walk. And I always have chores today so that will have to be done. Those never end. :)
Today I got my passport in the mail! Yay! One more thing for my trip. I only have about 2 months left to go until I leave for England. I still can't believe I'm going there. I have been reading my travel books over & over. I went to the mall on my lunch break on Friday. I got a pair of sneakers by Keen on sale at Nordstrom. They are black with a little red and white on them. They are comfortable. Now I have two pairs of Keen shoes. I love shoes. I will take both pairs of my Keen shoes to England with me. I can't wait to start wearing them.
I have one thing in my life that has been bugging me off and on for a couple months. I've got to stop letting it get to me. I think it bothers me off and on because I know there is nothing I can do. So I'm just going to have to slowly move on and in the end it will be good bye. It will be hard but it is what has to be done. I need to look out for myself and take care of myself. I'm totally done with it. I've been saying that for awhile now but it really is done now.
Oh I'm so in the mood to watch "Amelie" right now. If it wasn't so late I would watch it. I love that movie. It always makes me feel so happy when I watch it. And I love the actress that plays Amelie. I like the music from that movie too. Hmmm....I might have to check out that cd. And I've been in the mood to buy some Cds even though I shouldn't spend the money. I think I might need to do some on line shopping now. :):):) |

I'm so glad I went. I almost thought I don't have to go its okay but then I started thinking about her and thought to myself no I can't not go. I have to go. I know this may sound strange to say but her funeral was lovely. Berta was the most lovely, sweetest and kindest person I've ever known. Berta was a lady with a capital L. I loved seeing her and being with her. She always made you feel so special. She treated my brother & I like we were her grandchildren. I remember going to trick & treat at her house and she always gave Greg and I the big candy bars. :) Having dinners at her house listening to opera music. Berta and her husband, Wally loved the opera. And we use to listen to classical and Mexican music. Berta was an amazing dancer. She made the best homemade Mexican food. I had a few meals at her house as a child growing up. Greg and I always ate in the kitchen. We would talk to Berta and eat until we were totally stuffed! Wally passed away last year. He was very nice too. Greg and I use to always see Wally walking for exercise so we always said hi and talked for a few minutes. Its so sad to have them gone. But I guess at least I have great memories of them. I know I will never know a person like Berta again. She was the one of a kind and they truly broke the mold when she was made. I will always have a special place in my heart for Berta. |

Someone Like You
I've been searching a long time For someone exactly like you I've been travelling all around the world Waiting for you to come through. Someone like you makes it All worth while Someone like you keeps Me satisfied. Someone exactly Like you.
I've been travelin' a hard road Lookin' for someone exactly like you I've been carryin' my heavy load Waiting for the light to come Shinining through. Someone like you makes it All worth while Someone like you keeps Me satisfied. Someone exactly Like you.
I've been doin' some soul searching To find out where you're at I've been up and down the highway In all kinds of foreign lands. Someone like you...
I've been all around the world Marching to the beat of a different Drum. But just lately I have Realised The best is yet to come Someone like you... |

| | fan | ] | Today was in the high 90's which is way too hot for me! I feel like I'm melting into a puddle. Right now it's so nice outside. I just went outside to water my flowers. Then I sat on the porch with a cold drink and watered my feet! It felt so good. It really has cooled me down. I think keeping your feet cool helps you feel cool all over. I didn't eat dinner until almost 9pm. Food just didn't sound good earlier. I haven't done much at all tonight. I got gas in my car and ran one errand. I fell asleep on the loveseat during the news. I think the heat makes me tired. I do love having the sun out but just not the heat. I think I am a true Northwest girl. :):)
I'm in the mood to scrapbook and do things with paper. I want to buy some paper. I have lots of paper but I would like more. You can never have too much paper. Plus I have thought of some Christmas paper things I want to make for friends. I'm also in the mood to buy some shoes. I do need some nice but casual sandals for next month. My friend is getting married. And since the weather will probably be nice sandals would be good to wear. Plus I can take them to London with me and wear them to the plays and/or musicals. And I've been looking for some good walking shoes too. I want something comfortable but still looks good.
My Aunt GG and Uncle Gary from California are coming up next month. We are having a family dinner while they are here. I'm so excited to see them. I love seeing them. My Uncle Gary always makes me laugh. He has since I was a little girl. I spent quite a bit of time with them and their sons (my cousins). I have lots of good memories. I think next year for my vacation I will go back to the East coast to visit my family. I haven't been to PA for over 10 years. And I would like to go to New York too. I don't have family in NY but I do have two friends who live there. I think my vacations for next year will have to be PA, New York and San Francisco. |

I hate having a cold in the summer especially when it's warm out. Our weather has been so nice the past few days. I think this was the best 4th of July for weather that we've ever had. I love the sun but it's a little too warm for me. I heard on the news tonight that next week it might get to 90 and upper 80's. Yuck! That is too warm for me. I might be melting next week. My lunch break today was fun. I went to check on the dog I'm dog sitting. Then to Northgate mall with my coworker/friend, Shelly. I bought a summer shirt. It's a button short sleeve cotton shirt. It's solid white with bright green stripes. I have been looking at it for about and month. It was on sale so I bought it. Then we had lunch. I had a chicken soft taco. Then back to work for the afternoon.
I'm looking forward to having a quiet weekend. Tomorrow I'm going to a packing light class. It's free. Then I'm going to walk around downtown Edmonds and just browse. There is a bakery there so I may need to get a treat. :) I want to keep my strength up while I'm walking around. Any reason to go into a bakery is a good reason to me. :) I might go look at bikes tomorrow too. I have been thinking of getting a bike. I like to bike riding and need the exercise. I want to get a retro style bike with white walls on the tires. And I want a basket on the front of it. :) I'm not sure what color but my favorite colors are blue and green so maybe one of those colors. Sunday I will go to church. I should go for a walk. And I need to do all the usual things like laundry. :) That never ends. And I should organize my bills and papers. I might go to The Paper Zone. I have a gift card for there. And I've been thinking of some Christmas gifts I would like to make for my friends. I should start now so I'm not running around with head cut off like a chicken in November and December. I hate to be talking about Christmas but if I want to make things for people now is the time to start. :) Lots to do and lots to think about but its all good things. :) |

They were on sale and I finally found some things I liked. Saturday I just relaxed and slept in. Then I went to the grocery store. I made a mexican layer dip. Last night I went to a party at a friend's house. It was fun. Nothing fancy just good food, lots of laughing and friends. Today I ran some errands. I saw the movie "Ratatouille" today. I thought it was so cute. I love all the characters but the rats were cute. :) It was muggy/humid today. Yuck. :( I like the sun out and having nice weather but I don't like it muggy. I just felt so sticky and then it makes me feel tired. I had a grilled hamburger for dinner which was good. I called a friend to say hi and see how she was feeling. She is sick so I went to the store to get her some Sprite and jello. I hope she's feeling better soon. I'm going to call her tomorrow to see how she is feeling.
I'm getting so excited for my trip to London! I have 3 months and 10 days to go! I got a great travel purse to take with me. I can't wait to use it. I need to make some changes and do some things. Part of me is scared and I'm sure everyone feels that but I just need to get over it and do it. I'm not going to have regrets now or later in my life.
